SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Purpose and operating principle

A wellhead safety control system provides the hydraulic power, logic, monitoring and shutdown interfaces required to operate surface safety valves (SSV) and subsurface safety valves (SCSSV). It is used where a controlled, fail-safe response is required at unattended wells, production sites and platforms.

How the system works

The hydraulic power section charges dedicated control circuits to the selected SSV and SCSSV operating pressures. Local controls and field inputs maintain the valves in their commanded positions during normal service. If a confirmed shutdown condition occurs—such as high or low process pressure, fire-loop activation, emergency shutdown, loss of control pressure or another approved trip—the system vents the relevant hydraulic circuit in the defined sequence so the fail-safe valves move to their safe positions. Reset and restart follow the approved cause-and-effect and operating procedure.

Main features

  • Control and monitoring of surface safety valves and subsurface safety valves
  • Independent hydraulic-pressure circuits matched to each controlled valve
  • Solar-energy and electric hydraulic-pump power-source options
  • Local manual operation with emergency-shutdown and remote-trip interfaces
  • High- and low-pressure pilot monitoring where required by the shutdown philosophy
  • Fusible-loop/fire-detection input and low-hydraulic-pressure shutdown options
  • Pressure gauges, regulators, accumulators, reservoirs, filters and relief protection selected for the approved circuit
  • Single-well or multi-well architecture with project-specific sequencing
  • Outdoor cabinet, open-skid or enclosed-panel arrangements for the installation environment
  • Reset, bypass, alarm and indication functions defined by the approved cause-and-effect matrix

Typical applications

  • Unattended onshore production wells
  • Offshore wells and production platforms
  • Oil and gas production wellheads
  • Remote well sites using solar-powered hydraulic control
  • Surface and subsurface safety-valve control
  • Emergency shutdown and well-isolation systems
