PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Purpose and system role
A drilling-fluid or mud manifold is a central piping and valve assembly used to distribute high-pressure drilling fluid. It connects the pumping system to selected discharge routes and gives the rig team controlled isolation, diversion, pressure monitoring and maintenance access.
Functions
- Receives drilling fluid from one or more triplex mud pumps
- Directs flow toward selected standpipe, rotary-hose or process routes
- Provides isolation for pumps and downstream lines
- Supports controlled diversion and pressure management
- Provides gauge, sensor, drain and test connection points
- Facilitates monitoring and maintenance of the drilling-fluid system
Available configurations
- Two-pump, three-pump or project-specific headers
- 2 in to 5 in flow paths
- 5,000, 7,500 or 10,000 psi pressure classes
- Mud gate valves or Y-type metal-to-metal valves
- Flanged, welded, threaded or hammer-union interfaces as required
- Skid-mounted or rig-integrated arrangement
Principal components
- High-pressure headers and branch piping
- Mud valves and isolation valves
- Forged crosses, tees, elbows and union fittings
- Pressure gauges, transmitters and pulsation-monitoring points
- Drain, bleed and test connections
- Support frame, skid and lifting provisions
Typical applications
- Mud-pump discharge distribution
- Standpipe and rotary-hose supply
- High-pressure mud mixing and circulation systems
- Pump isolation and switching
- Rig drilling-fluid pressure monitoring
